Breck Scares Hunger: The Celebration
The celebration chapel for our Breck Scares Hunger food collection — an amazing 11,045 pounds — involved pies-in-faces for our Deans. AND, MS Director Sky Fauver jumped into one of the Breck ponds (video to come). US Director Tom Taylor was called away but is NOT getting out of having his head shaved! Breck students rose to the challenge of collecting 10,000 pounds of food and were generously rewarded for their efforts. We all won!

Biobuddies: Kindergartners and Eighth Graders together
One of the intergenerational programs at Breck is the biobuddy program, where eighth graders meet monthly with their kindergarten buddies and the track the growth of the younger student. This meeting involved tracing the outline of the kindergartner's body, drawing the skeleton inside the body outline. More work on this body double will take place in future meetings.

Upper School Choir Concert
The Upper School choirs performed in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on Wednesday night. They were joined mid-concert by faculty & staff singers and they performed a rousing version of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus." Breckapella and the Breck Bowties sang, and the concert ended with everyone singing the "Carol of the Bells." We are definitely in the holiday mood now!

Breck + Whole Learning Academy Unified Pep Ralley
Breck hosted students and faculty from the Academy of Whole Learning (AOWL), one of our community partners for unified activities. Unified activities are those that bring together students with and without intellectual disabilities for fun and sports. AOWL is an independent school located in St. Louis Park. It currently has just under 40 students. AOWL and Breck students play together on unified flag football and basketball teams. These photos are from a basketball game at Breck on January 22.
Raptor Center Visits Preschool
Representatives (including Breck's Judy Moran) from the University of MN's Raptor Center brought four raptors to preschool last week. Our preschoolers have been studying raptors and their knowledge was put to the test. We saw a red-tailed hawk, a peregrene falcon, a great-horned owl and (ta-dah!) a bald eagle. They are all such impressive birds! WARNING: There are photos of birds eating in this gallery. The owl is fed a frozen mouse ...

MLK Day Chapel and Speaker Tommie Smith
Breck School was honored to have Dr. Tommie Smith speak to Breck students for our MLK Day Symposia on January 20. Smith is the 1968 Olympic runner who set a world record in the 200M, won the gold medal and received world attention when he and bronze medalist John Carlos raised their hands in the “silent gesture” — a human rights salute.

First-Grade Buddies with Seniors - Hot cocoa and books
Each year our first-graders and their senior buddies gather in the Salas Commons to read together and drink hot cocoa ... with marshmallows, of course. It's mostly first graders reading to seniors, but some of our seniors LOVE to read aloud, too. We do love our intergenerational relationships at Breck!

MS Geography Bee
Finalists in the Middle School Geography Bee had so much knowledge (and made so few mistakes) that we ran out of time in our allotted time and had to finish another day. The first photos are from that first session. The last two are of our winners — from the second session. Congratulations to Breck champion Morgan Richter!
