Distinguished Alumnus Spencer Reece '81

Our Distinguished Alumnus Spencer Reece '81 has spoken at Middle School and Upper School Chapels. Spencer worked at an orphanage in Honduras that is the subject of a documentary film, "Las Chavas." Breck is proud to host a screening of the film Thursday, 9/24, at 7 PM in the Cargill Theater.

Breck's annual Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony featured former Breck athletes Traci Copeland '97, Dr. Paul Cederberg '69, and others who were not able to attend the ceremony. The Del Carter Memorial Award was presented to Dr. Jacob Miller.

Our October 6 All-School Chapel was based on the theme that will continue all year: stories. Chapel featured the important books for many of the religions that are celebrated at Breck. Next was a quiz about the books, given by MS Chaplain Alexis Kent. And we ended with a performance of the combined Middle and Upper School Choirs, conducted by Helen Westerfield.

We had two Breck doubles teams in the championship match of the state tournament — and they were sisters. Grace Zumwinkle and Lauren Kozikowski were the winners over Anna Zumwinkle and Kendall Kozikowski.

Such an exciting game this afternoon. Our Mustangs beat the #1 seeded St. Thomas Academy 2-0 in the state tournament semifinal match. We'll play in the final tomorrow (Thursday, 11/5) at noon. Go Mustangs!

Breck students study moon rocks

Breck students were fortunate to have REAL moon rocks to examine for two weeks — made available to Upper School science teacher Chelen Johnson through her sabbatical work with NASA. These are pictures of seniors assisting first graders who are looking at the rocks through microscopes. The rocks have been returned to NASA.

We Day 2015

About 80 Breck students attended We Day 2015, held at the Xcel Energy Center on November 3. Breck alumna Hutton Phillips '13 and her brother Dean Phillips were part of the team that brought We Day to Minnesota three years ago.
